Our Mission
The Peterborough Christian School Society (PCSS) operates a fully integrated and financially stable Christian community learning centre seeking to meet the needs of those it serves.

The membership of the PCSS takes their obligation to provide Christian day school education very seriously.

In order to fulfill the above obligations they have established Rhema Christian School.

For the same reasons they have committed to ensuring that as many people as possible are provided with the opportunity to experience the educational alternative that Rhema presents.

Also, the PCSS recognizes that it has a responsibility to model Christian day school education as a visible and viable alternative to publicly funded schooling.

Our Vision
In the light of our mission statement, the Peterborough Christian School Society (PCSS) works within a nurturing Christian community to promote the development of Christ-centered world view in students by providing an environment of excellence that fosters personal achievement.

The concept of community has always been key in defining the experience that Rhema has to offer students and families. Rhema is a harmonious blend of parents, non-parent supporters, staff and students; all who are wholly committed to Christian principles which are integrated with an excellent education.

As a result, The PCSS recognizes the need for accurately assessing the school community’s current status. This assessment will enable the school society to respond to shortcomings and to adjust, where needed, to the changing environment around us.

Our most recent visioning process identified three major themes for growth for us as a community:

1. We need to further integrate people (parents and volunteers), ideas and new technologies into our educational program.

2. Our community needs to create financial stability so that no child will be excluded on the basis of cost. This financial stability will be partly created through appeals for regular financial assistance from beyond our community’s usual support base.

3. We also need to extend the use of our facilities and the talents of our personnel in order to provide education beyond the level of the traditional elementary day school. For example, our facilities could be made available for sports events, evening adult education and for corporate seminars.

In order to achieve what we have set out to do, the PCSS has established a 5 year strategic plan. If you would like to find out the details of the plan and how it will work; or if you would like to be involved in strategic planning; or if you would like to help make it happen, please contact the school at: 705-743-1400

Our Beliefs

Statement of Belief
Peterborough Christian School Society
Our school society is based on the following beliefs:

The Bible
We believe the Bible to be the Word of God and that the sixty-six books were inspired by the Spirit of God. We believe that the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice and is the only true basis of Christian unity.

God
We believe in one God: creator of all, holy, and sovereign, existing in three equal Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This only true and living God has revealed Himself in the Bible, in Christ Jesus, and in His Creation.

Christ
We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His existence with the Father, in His virgin birth, sinless life, bodily resurrection, substitutionary death, ascension, and personal bodily return; that He is Lord.

The Holy Spirit
We believe in the deity of the Holy Spirit who convinces of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; Who regenerates, sanctifies, illuminates, comforts those who believe in Jesus Christ, and empowers His people individually and together to fulfill their gospel and cultural mandate.

Creation
We believe that the world, in its origin, gracious preservation and ultimate restoration, is the work of the Triune God. Since the glorification of His Name is its purpose, we can understand the world rightly only in its relation to Him.

Man
We believe that man was created in the image of God to enjoy covenantal (promised) fellowship with his Creator and to reflect in his person and works the excellencies of his Maker. He was instructed to exercise dominion over the world in strict and loving obedience to God and to interpret all reality in accordance with His design and law.

Sin
We believe that sin is disobedience to God's law. Man was tempted by Satan and yielded. By sinning, man forsook his office and task, estranged himself from God and his neighbor, and brought God's curse upon His creation. As a result, man has become corrupt in heart. He rejects the true meaning of life and misuses the knowledge of God which confronts him in creation and in Scripture.

Salvation
We believe that salvation is by the sovereign grace of God; that by the appointment of the Father, Christ voluntarily suffered and died, paying the penalty for our sins; that justification is by faith alone in the all sufficient sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Kingdom of God
We believe that the Kingdom of God, being Christ's righteous and universal rule, demands us to respond in loving obedience to our Savior in the area of education.

The Second Coming
We believe that Jesus Christ shall physically return on the clouds of Glory, at the Father's appointed time. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust; the eternal punishment of the lost; and the eternal blessedness of the saved.

Principles of the Society

Life
We believe that human life in its entirety is religion, for God created man to serve Him totally, and requires us to educate our children for His service.

Parents
We believe that God has given parents the responsibility to nurture and educate their children. Therefore, parents should establish and maintain schools.

Child
We believe that the child, entrusted by God to parents, needs structuring, correction, and instruction. Children of the Christian home are a heritage of the Lord and share in the promises and the demands of Christ's covenant with His people. Hence they ought to receive Christian education.

Teacher
We believe that the teacher is responsible to God for the performance of his office of educating the child in the school.

Purpose of Education
We believe that the purpose of Christian Education is to direct and guide the child to commit his heart to Christ the Truth, to attain to understanding, wisdom, and righteousness, and to perform his competent and responsible service of the Lord, in church, state and society.

Christian Unity
We believe, that based on love as defined in the Bible, and because of the unique nature of a non-denominational school, that harmony and unity are fundamental to the goals of the school. For that reason individual denominational doctrinal views or emphasis are not to be promoted within the Society, but referred to either the home or the church.
