Rhema organizes events to benefit Haiti relief efforts

The Good Neighbour committee at Rhema organized a spaghetti lunch Thursday, Jan. 21 to fundraise for Haiti earthquake relief efforts.

Students were asked to contribute $3 for the meal, and in a few hours $1,000 was raised.

Peter Bouzinelos from The Pizza Factory donated and prepared the food, and parents helped in the kitchen.

Rhema also organized a floor hockey tournament, with funds to be distributed to Seeds of Hope, which works to educate, feed, clothe and house the people of Grande Goave, Haiti.

Rhema principal Joel Slofstra says students were very eager to help the people of Haiti and the community responded very well to the fundraising opportunities.

“We partake in Good Neighbour type activities throughout the year to demonstrate God's love through us in our community and this is a great way for us to show that His love can reach all of His children,” says Slofstra.

Story Update:
Rhema has continued to fundraise for Haiti. Grades 1 and 2 raised $750 through their store unit.

The floor hockey tournament raised $1,600. At the tournament, a bake sale was held by Grade 2 and 3 students that raised $80.

Grade 8 is doing a magazine sale fundraiser, that has raised more than $400 so far.
