Grade

On September 21, 2005, the
grade six class of Rhema Christian
School went to Lang Pioneer village
on a class trip to learn about pioneer-style
schooling.
There were many things to do, including
observing and exploring the new environment,
playing games and old-fashioned schooling.
Grade six students were all dressed
up in pioneer clothing and even had
pioneer lunches! The lunches included
cheese, buns, a cookie and fruits
and vegetables that could grow naturally
in the area. The school was just a
one-room schoolhouse. The only heating
was the wood stove in the middle,
and the only light was from the sun
and an oil lamp.
After a long day of very exciting
and fun things to do, the grade six
class came back to school exhausted
and talked about all the fun they
had had. Some people were wishing
that it had been an overnight trip
and that the class could have spent
a night in the hotel. Others objected
and said that if they had stayed they
would have fought over who slept in
what bed, and who didn’t get
a bed. But, in the end, students were
all glad that they got to sleep in
their own beds. After a good night’s
sleep, all were refreshed and ready
to go back to school.
