Rhema celebrates
25 years with massive reunion

Engineers, business men and women,
chemists, psychologists, teachers, nurses,
massage therapists, plenty of parents
and many others will converge upon Rhema
Christian School May 15 to get reacquainted.
That's what happens when 25 years
pass by and people go on with their
lives.
Now, this rich tapestry of careers,
life experiences and personalities
has the chance to mingle again as
Rhema celebrates a quarter century
of Christian-based learning with a
massive reunion. It was in September
of 1979 that Rhema opened its doors
in the basement of Cephas Christian
Reformed Church in Peterborough.
Ray Hendriks, principal of Rhema,
says to know how far the school has
come makes the reunion "a great
celebration for us."
"We celebrate God's faithfulness.
There are so many great stories here,
where God has been proven through
the actions and deeds of the community,"
he says.
Next week, between 400 and 500 people
are expected at the afternoon program
at the school, which will be followed
by an open house, according to the
office administrator of the school
and chair of the reunion committee,
Rena Ridley.
Prior to the open house, a golf
tournament at Keystone Links Golf
and Country Club and a volleyball
tournament in the morning will serve
to kick-start the day.
That evening, about 250 people who
hold tickets will attend a banquet
dinner at 6 p.m. in the Peter Gzowski
building at Trent University.
Rena says it is "exciting to
be touching base with our graduates
to hear what (has) been happening
in their lives."
"And it will be exciting for
them to see their classmates,"
she adds.
Rena has been with Rhema in some
capacity since the school began 25
years ago. At first she was a volunteer
but then would soon begin working
for the school a few years later.
"I remember so many names and
faces -- it's going to be a great
time to see everyone," she says.
