It appears
that people came to the Second Annual
Dinner Auction at Rhema Friday night
raring to spend.
"Things were going
for crazy prices," exclaims Jane
Ulrich, one of the coordinators for
the auction, in a personal interview.
This year again the
limousine ride with Principal Ray
Hendricks was the most popular item
on the list. Intense bidding between
three groups pushed the item up to
a final sale of $1825.
A houseboat rental went
for $1200.
Don and Kim Dyke bought
a camping/canoeing trip with three
teachers for $1200.
Don says his main motive
for buying the trip was to support
the school. "We camp. But we’re
not a real avid camping family."
But they got a good
deal, he says. The teachers will paddle
out and set up camp for the winning
family, serve them food and cater
to them for two days and two nights.
Don isn’t sure if singing is
included in the package.
Another popular auction
item was the Neurotic Nannies deal.
Rhema’s two kindergarten teachers,
Cheryl and Wendy are the Neurotic
Nannies who will look after the winner’s
home for a weekend while the parents
take a quick vacation. The package
includes baby-sitting, cleaning and
cooking.
In total, plus $20,000
was raised through both the live and
silent auction.
"It was very much
a success," says Jane.
People are already talking
about ideas for auction items for
next year.
World-renowned Chef
Christopher Ennew, whose son attends
the school, prepared this year’s
menu. Attendees enjoyed a feast of
maple glazed stuffed pork tenderloin
with an apple chutney and phyllo cups
with sautéed apple and raspberry
sorbet for dessert.
Over 150 people attended
the auction, which was held in the
Rhema Christian School gymnasium.
