| Choir
captures audience

A choir from Rhema Christian
School competed in the Peterborough
Kiwanis Music Festival Inc. yesterday.
Not only did they score well, but
they captured the attention of the
audience with their superb singing.
"According to the
adjudicator, they had the audience
in the palm of their hand," says
Pat Reesor, volunteer choir director,
in a telephone interview. The
choir took first place with a score
of 88 per cent for two songs, Plenty
Good Room and I am a Small Part of
His World. The
latter song is particularly long and
the adjudicator said he was amazed
at how focused the choir members remained
throughout it. The
35-member singing group is made up
of students from Grades 2 to 7. They
have been practising since January
for this festival as well as other
events at Rhema, including Grandparents'
Day and Easter. The
students gave up a lunch hour a week
for the practices, which has been
a real sacrifice on their part, says
Pat. But the commitment has evidently
paid off. "They
sang very well," says Pat of
their performance at the festival.
"[Apparently] about halfway through
their singing the adjudicator just
stopped writing and looked and listened."
The choir will be performing
at the upcoming 25th anniversary of
the school. |
